Vanessa describes herself as a Christian who, like Adrian Plass of the Sacred Diary series, knows she doesn’t have it all together. She’s trying to apply the bible to her life but falls short. Her experience of failure usually leads her back to God, freshly aware of her need of him. Readers will find a bit of themselves in her books. They will also learn about the bible in ways that are engaging and new.
Travels of a Wimpy Mum is a creative memoir inspired by her family’s travels around the western half of Australia with young children, with reflections on the Book of James. Vanessa’s favourite aspect of the book is the characters’ sense of deepening spiritual awareness. She is currently working on a European Travel memoir focusing on 1 Corinthians, and an historical novel about an English woman from the fourteenth century: Alice Dexter, who reads the bible for herself when it is translated into everyday English. She hopes readers will encounter the bible in fresh and challenging ways in the context of these personal narratives about ordinary people grappling with their faith.
