Description

From the Editor:
This author has created a book of poetry like no other you have ever read. There are almost 500 poems in this book, and although they follow poetic convention, they are not the typical rhyming lines we read so often in poetry books. The author has created a unique way of writing poetry and songs in the form of vignettes which tell stories about life, love, nature, our human and spiritual experiences, our worldly relationships and yes, even about bees and butterflies. It’s a poetry book that reads like a novel; it’s a real page turner. The proof is in the pudding; here are some examples:
300 POUNDS I have been whipped and told arrogant lies. My skin has been torn by scornful eyes. My little finger once was pricked by a thorn just as innocent blood has made my heart mourn. Once my soul was wounded in a raging crowd; I’ve swallowed bitter words that were angry and proud. I’ve stumbled and fallen up many a stony road; but I can’t fathom what you lifted to save my soul. Even now, though I struggle with all my might and sometimes have great moments of clear insight, I cannot see that I’ll ever be enough to carry the weight of your perfect love. Yet, I vow I will struggle every minute today, to lift you up and follow your way; and as I stumble along to old, broken road of life, I will remember what you gave to carry the light.

KIND OF LIKE A CUP OF COFFEE A poem is never really finished, kind of like a life or a cup of coffee. Even after the last drop, it continues to whisper softly, spooning sugar in big piles beside a cauldron of clouds and cream, stirring dark, sub-atomic particles like a heart-grinding dream. Heightening passions and ponders and senses of all kinds, it crowns bitterness with love even as it regenerates minds. Best of all it lurks in the nose, itching like a secret between friends, and you can pour it down the drain like rain, but like life, it never ends; and though it doesn’t need a thank you, it’s like that cup of coffee you adore; it leaves a stain on your brain and you only want more.

IF LOVE LIVES FOREVER It’s raining inside my umbrella & my hair is dripping wet. I had a good thought this morning, but I can’t remember it. I know I need to be somewhere, but now I’ve lost the map. My mind supposes there’s a short cut, but I can’t figure that. Then, you turn and use your smile to wipe the rain off my face, and suddenly the world entire is beaming with sunny grace. So, I close my umbrella and take the full force of the sky, glad to get even wetter though I really don’t know why. Then, as precious diamonds drip from the end of my lashes and my nose, I feel inspiration spreading from my follicles to my toes. Then, I see the good, old short cut & remember how it should go, and I’m sure if love lives forever, because of you, I will know.

EXPERIMENTYou have been given the great gift of the moment, & though you did not ask for it, & it is not what you really wanted, still it is uniquely yours. It’s kind of like when you are playing a game, & though you really want to get the magic sword, instead you find a basket of apples. You’re not sure whether you should pick it up or run on empty-handed. Finally, you take a step, & somehow the basket is in your hands; but you hear the dragon coming. Will you run, or will you throw an apple, hoping it turns into a snow grenade which will freeze the dragon’s nostrils, giving you time to hide under the rocks? Quite suddenly, on an impulse, which seems so natural as to be autonomic like breath, you offer the dragon a gift, & though it is not what the dragon wanted, the dragon steps closer & suddenly the apple is in its mouth; & the smell of pie floods the air. And though it’s not really what you wanted you’re glad the moment is uniquely yours. Then, you begin to sing a lullaby as the dragon’s sweet exhalation singes your hair; & then you win the game, but you don’t even care.
