Varsy Arsy–Proclaiming the Gospel in Second Corinthians

$14.95

Varsy Arsy, the second volume in Ross’s examination of Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, delves into the Corinthian church’s embrace of a false teaching rooted in Greek wisdom. This Gnostic spirituality, while bringing wealth and influence, was denounced by Paul as a façade. In contrast to the celebrated success of the Corinthians, Paul challenges them to return to genuine faithfulness, opposing the worldly wisdom of Greek culture with the true wisdom of Christ. What the Corinthians deemed wisdom, Paul boldly labels as foolishness.

Description

Varsy Arsy is volume two of Ross’s examination of Paul’s letters to the Corinthians. The Corinthian church had been captured by a false teaching that brought it wealth, success and influence. Oddly, the false, Gnostic spirituality being taught was based on popular, Greek wisdom and had produced worldly success. But Paul saw through the charade and called the Corinthians back to ordinary faithfulness that stood in opposition to the false wisdom of Greek culture issuing from the academy. What the successful Corinthians called wisdom, Paul called foolishness.
